Hello,

I need info on the institutes that provide Actuarial Course other than ASI. The criteria seems irrevocable but am still persistent in doing the course.

Any help would be great.

With Regards
Aditya

**PLEASE READ THE FULL THREAD IN ACTUARIAL CAREERS>>JOBS&CORPORATE>>CAREER SHIFT-WORTHWHILE**

Hi ahbs
nice write-up!
Your concern for the actuarial career and for those thinking of a career shift to actuaries is to be appreciated.

We see that more n more number of students are finding it difficult to get a call/interview (leave alone getting a JOB!). But dont you think this phenomenon is common for all the professions/careers in these times of recession!? Joblessness is every where, in IT, ITES, Financial serv sector... then why just be negative about actuarial profession?

However, it is agreed that Actuarial field is a relatively small one with limited opportunities.. limiting itself to "insurance", "pensions", a little bit in "investments" etc. But the main problem is that its applications have very little scope in other fields.

I mean to say the skills you acquire by studying actuarial science have little or no use in fields other than those mentioned above.

For instance, compared to an Actuary, a chartered accountant stands a better chance in terms of employibility, i.e. number of job offers per person (with variety of job positions across various sectors).

So, what can we conclude?
Actuaries is not a career worthwile to waste one's precious time (it easily takes up 4 to 5 years in passing the exams alone.. doesn't it?)...
Just like learning scuba-diving it is meant for those who have a passion to learn things and acquire knowledge just for the sake of "learning".

But for those who are looking for a career with a serious intention to earn more n make it BIG in thier lives...ACTUARIES IS A STRICT NO-NO!

Comments n views are welcome please.
