Another Life Insurance Company gets closer to forming

Yesterday two major Indian banks, Bank of India, Union Bank of India and Japanese insurance player Dai-Ichi Mutual Life Insurance Co signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for their upcoming Life Insurance joint venture.

LIC re-captures market share

After consistently losing out it's market share to private players over the past few years, the Indian insurance industry witnessed a reversed trend when the first seven months of the financial year 2006-07 saw LIC's market share grow from 63% to 70%.

Heath Insurance in India: Star Health

The Chennai-based Star Health and Allied Insurance Co which happens to be the country’s first stand-alone health insurance company, plans to expand its product basket by launching at least five new products in the next 3-4 months. The new products will cover areas such as diabetes-related ailments, trauma care, students’ overseas travel and dental care. The company also plans a mediclaim product for the low-income group.
At present it offers overseas mediclaim policies, group and individual mediclaim policies and personal accident cover and a major chunk of its revenues comes from personal accident care cover.

Credit Policy: Basel II adherence deadlines extended

In the mid-term review of Annual Policy for year 2007, RBI has extended the earlier intended Basel II compliance deadline of March 31,2007.
Basel-II norms stipulate banks to assess credit, market and operations risks and make higher provisioning for covering them.

Insurance Top States - Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh

These group of states, popularly termed 'BIMARU' states (as an abbreviation, not the literal Hindi translation) are considered to be the best insurance sub-markets in the country; according to a Executive Director of Max New York Life Insurance Rajesh Sood.

IRDA's recommendations being examined by the Government

The Government of India of Friday announced that it is looking into the recommendations provided by IRDA for amendments in the LIC Act.
Among the several amendments that were recommended, some of the more prominent ones are:
=> Non-continuation of Government guarantees for LIC policies
=> Mandating it via law for LIC to also keep reserves for solvency margin like private players.

Bank Of Baroda Looking towards Japan for Insurance JV

After failed talks of being a potential third partner alongwith IDBI and Fortis, Bank of Baroda (BoB) has now shortlisted on three Japanese insurers for a joint venture, viz. Sumitomo Life, Nippon Life and Tokio Marine Life.
